PPFL: Army clinch 4-3 win against KPT
Two-time champions maintain fifth place in PPFL.
KARACHI:
Army edged KPT 4-3 in their Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match at the Railway Football Stadium in Lahore on Friday.
Muhammad Arif scored the opening goal in the fifth minute of the match as Army led 1-0 at the interval. Muhammad Imran then doubled the score in the 58th minute.
However, KPT’s Mohammad bin Younus scored twice and Zafar Majeed also contributed with his goal.
Arif then scored another goal in the 68th minute while Muhammad Usman sealed the win in the 72nd minute.
Two-time champions Army are on fifth position with 49 points and have two more matches to play. They can replace PAF on fourth place, who finished their season with 53 points. On the other hand, KPT stood on eighth position with 38 points.
The winners are now looking to end their season on a high when they meet defending champions KRL on February 5.
“We want to end the season with a win,” Army squad-member Jaffar Khan told The Express Tribune. “We have defeated KRL before with a margin of a goal.
“Our team will play with the same spirit. Each player would want to give their all in the last match. It doesn’t matter if we’re only playing to finish on the fourth place; we just want to conclude the league with a win.”
The top three teams – KRL, Wapda and KESC – have 62 points each.
The last few matches in the league will decide the winner, as Wapda will play KESC on February 4 while KRL and KESC will conclude the season on February 8.
