Recurring theme: Intelligence agency official shot, injured

An intelligence agency official was shot, injured by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Chota Lahor, Swabi district on Monday.

DSP Izhar Shah said the incident occurred around 10:30am when Muhammad Javaid, who was on preparatory leave to retirement for a month, was travelling with his family.



The DSP said Javaid was travelling in a rickshaw from Chota Lahor to Lahor Shaikh when two gunmen on a motorbike intercepted the vehicle and shot him multiple times, adding his family members remained safe in the incident. Shah said the injured official was rushed to Bacha Khan Medical Complex in Shah Mansoor and according to the initial medical report was shot five times in his chest, arms and legs. The official was then transferred to Lady Reading Hospital. A case was filed against unidentified militants who fled the scene after the incident.


An official of Chota Lahor police said this is not the first time Javaid has been attacked, saying in early 2012, militants shot and injured the official but he recovered from his injuries.



On January 12, a traffic constable was shot and injured by unidentified armed motorcyclists in the Link Road neighbourhood of Swabi city. Two days later, on January 14, an official of the police’s special branch was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists near the general bus stand. He was shot six times. FIRs were registered in both cases.
