Designer clutches that standout from the crowd.
KARACHI:
Flick through the people pages of any high-end Pakistani magazine and you’ll see how much society ladies love statement-making bags. Despite the multitude of designers out there, you’ll undoubtedly see the same crop of Birkins, Bottega knot clutches, Chanel 2.55s and LV Neverfulls. A few other bags have become wildly popular, particularly in label-mad Lahore, namely the Prada Saffiano, the McQueen knuckleduster and the Chanel boy bag.
Whilst these bags are gorgeous in themselves, it’s a bit disconcerting to see them on everyone from newlyweds to seemingly ageless aunties. The Chanel 2.55 in particular has always struck me as somewhat of a mumsy bag, yet uber-rich newlyweds have been known to buy them in several colours. If you really are going to spend eye-watering amounts on handbags, maybe it’s time to branch out a little.
As far as clutches go, Bottega and Alexander McQueen seem to be the only two designers anyone in Pakistan ever seems to consider. If you must buy a Bottega, at least go for an elongated Knot clutch instead of the ubiquitous smaller minaudiere. There are many beautiful edgy Mcqueen clutches in the skull and knuckleduster ranges, but considering how so many people are carrying the same bags, why not go for some different designers? Here’s a small selection of what’s out there.
If you prefer a more minimalist look, pick up something like this chic, python clutch which once again features that elegant quartz clasp.
The revamped Burberry just gets better and better — it’s a brand with a young edgy vibe. These crush clutches are seriously covetable.
Marchesa is one designer that makes clutches that are perfect for formal eastern wear. Their extravagant embroidered minaudieres with the signature quartz crystal clasp are just the thing to carry with elaborate eastern formals.
The Chanel Timeless clutch is a terribly aunty-style bag, however Chanel does do some beautiful evening bags. Check out the detailing on this elegant clutch.
Pakistani fashionistas have already fallen for the allure of the red sole, but Louboutin bags can be stunning. Check out the shoe clasp and red interior of this versatile little number.
Strictly for those who prefer a sophisticated minimalist look, this chic clutch ticks all the boxes.
This is perfect for adding a little bling to your outfit. It is slightly less exorbitantly priced than many other designer clutches.
Gucci has amped up its image in recent years. The latest collection includes the gorgeous hip bamboo clutch which features a bamboo and braided leather closure.
