LBA polls: Lawyers to elect new executive for 2014-15 today
Ch Muhammad Ishtiaq and GA Khan contesting for LBA president.

As many as 13,000 lawyers will exercise their right to vote at the Lahore Bar Association’s elections for 2014-2015 at the district and sessions court on Saturday (today).
The candidates for the slots of president, vice president and general secretaries will battle it out, in what several lawyers have said, would be a close competition.
The professional group led by Hamid Khan has fielded Chaudhry Muhammad Ishtiaq as its candidate for president, while the Asma Jahangir group has nominated GA Khan Tariq.
Chaudhry Ishtiaq might have an edge over his competitor as he is contesting the election for the second time. Moreover, the Mian Israr group, once a rival of the Hamid Khan group, has now joined hands in supporting Ishtiaq.
Both candidates claim that they are being supported by more than a hundred lawyers’ groups and are confident of victory.
Ishtiaq told The Express Tribune that he was being supported by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Lawyers Forum, Farooq Amjad Mir group, Ameer Alam Khan group, Khawaja Sharif, Rashid Lodhi and Rai Bashir Ahmed.
Tariq told The Express Tribune that he had the support of Ahsan Bhoon, Kazam Khan group, Abid Saqi (current LHCBA president), Sardar Latif Khan Khosa and Shehzad Hassan Shaikh.
Aziz A Bhatti, Muhammad Jahangir Bhatti, Labib Zafar Bajwa, Syed Asim Ali Shah and Ghulam Abas Sahir are contesting for the post of vice president. Zameer Ahmed Jhedu and Syed Tafseer Haidar Shah are contesting for vice president, Model Town seat. Lawyers have claimed that Labib Zafar Bajwa, Muhammad Jahangir Bhatti and Zameer Ahmed Jhedu were most likely to win.
There are four candidates for the post of general secretary- Chaudhry Saleem Ladhi, Qaseem Aslam Hanjra, Adeeb Aslam Bhindar and Khuram Mir. Lawyers have claimed that Qaseem Aslam Hanjra and Khuram Mir are most likely to win.
Tariq and Ishtiaq told The Express Tribune that would launch welfare projects for lawyers if elected president. Times have changed and lawyers want a change in the way benefits are distributed among lawyers, they said.
