The provincial government extended the vacations on account of the extreme weather the province is currently experiencing.
Private School Management Association too had requested that the government extend winter vacations.
Earlier, schools and colleges had opened on Wednesday January 1, 2014 after the winter vacations, which now would open on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

I was joking. The Sindh Government has taken a great step forward by for the first time actually thinking for the students and they have done this to protect the children of our nation. Ofcourse, Canada is more immune to cold winter's than us, I had forgotten and I am very sorry.
@the Skunk: You talk about freezing weather. Please tell me how 8 degrees(lowest temperature in Karachi for the whole of next week) is freezing? Oh and btw Canada experiences severe weather when temperatures fall as low as -40 at that temperature even 'insulated buildings' do'nt work, but do they close down schools?
The Sindh Education ministry has nothing better to do than giving holidays. At least makes the kids happy.
@Sindhi: Pakistan can never become Canada if we keep closing schools due to such reasons. Insulated buildings are there, but they have up to -30 degrees as well. Kids should live with it or parents should see how kids in northern areas are living in -10. Please study, we need education!
@Instantaneous: All of Canada is in the north and part of it is in the 'tundra' and Arctic circle. The inhabitants are acclimatized to living in those conditions. So please do not resort to points scoring. Where you are, please remain there. Thank you
The only sensible thing to do. getting up early in the morning in this freezing weather is too much for these kiddos. Then waiting for the school bus or walking to school and sitting in the classroom. The only sensible thing to do. Salams
@Instantaneous:
They have insulated buildings, are more habitual of cold - we are habitual of hot weather... and do you really believe Pakistan == Canada?
good decision ! same should be implemented in Federal and Punjab. we badly lack facilities to keep our institutions warm especially for younger children and in rural areas . children are prone to many diseases.. If holidays are not possible then at least school timings should be revised .
It's only 8 degrees. In Canada and most European countries Schools and offices are open even when its -20 and this has been how it has been before electric heaters were made
oh Great ! kids keep enjoying the chilled weather :)
