KARACHI:

A doctor belonging to the minority community was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants near Bakra Piri in Lyari on Monday allegedly over a property dispute.

The deceased was identified as Dr Shambhu Lal, a resident of Garden, who owned a clinic named 'Summer' located in front of Kalakot Police Station.

According to SSP City Arif Aziz, Dr Lal used to go for a walk daily on the Lyari Expressway. On Monday, while he was out for his routine walk, armed assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him.

Upon receiving information, police, Rangers, and rescue teams reached the scene. Dr Lal's body was shifted to Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

Police officials said three 9mm bullet casings were recovered from the scene, and additional forensic evidence has been collected. The attackers were riding a motorcycle; one of them was wearing a helmet.

SSP Arif Aziz said that, according to the victim's family, Dr Lal was involved in an ongoing dispute over property and money with some relatives. The murder is suspected to be linked to that dispute, though police are investigating from multiple angles.

Dr Lal's last rites will be performed today (Tuesday) in his native town of Badin.
