A Special Gender Based Violence Court has sentenced an accused involved in sexual abuse of 15 minors, to 15 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs1 million, according to the Human Rights Council of Pakistan.
A council spokesperson stated that the court delivered its verdict in case against Qari Muhammad Anwar after charges were proved beyond doubt.
The court observed that the testimonies of the affected children, forensic and documentary evidence, statements of witnesses, and a detailed investigation by the investigating officer collectively established the guilt of the accused.
The court remarked that the victims were subjected to intimidation and fear to silence them. However, the children and their families showed courage by coming forward and pursuing justice despite pressure and trauma. The council played an active role throughout the proceedings, providing legal assistance, guidance and moral support to the affected families.
