KARACHI:

Police have booked four political workers for their alleged involvement in the targeted attack on a prominent religious scholar in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Two security guards of Allama Mirza Yousuf Hussain were killed when armed motorcyclists targeted his security squad in Gulistan-e-Jauhar within the limits of Sharae Faisal police station on Saturday night. Police have registered an FIR against the four political workers - Faisal Hashmi, Osama, Umair and Arshad. However, they refused to reveal the political party the suspects are affiliated with.

DSP Majeed Abbas confirmed the suspects and said that police officials were the actual targets of the attack. “Hussain was not the target of the attack,” he said. “The attackers only targeted his security squad, especially the police officials.

Abbas added that investigation has been transferred to Ferozabad police station. While no arrests have been made so far, further investigations are underway.
