
Prices of eggs and chicken have surged during the in twin cities during the last week.
The price of the chicken has increased from Rs150 per kilogram to Rs185 kilogram while the price of eggs have increased from Rs115 per dozen to Rs 130 per dozen. A couple of week ago, chicken s were sold at around Rs150 per kg and eggs at Rs115 per dozen. Sources said that increased fares of vehicles have pushed the prices up.
Kamran Afzal, a citizen, said eggs are an absolute priority in breakfast and people are compelled to purchase them despite high prices.
Waqas Majeed, a student, said he never saw such shoot up in prices of eggs and chicken in the past.
The authorities have taken a deaf ear to the issue instead of chalking out a mechanism to control prices essential eatables. When contacted, a representative of the poultry association said that costly feed and high petroleum prices were the main cause of the price surge. The citizens have expressed their dismay over the price hike saying the poultry association have increased the prices of these essential eatables on their own, demanding to bring the prices down.
