SHO called to explain illegal construction

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned the Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO on Tuesday to explain why there was construction going on in a graveyard in the area — a violation of the court’s directives.

The SHC division bench was hearing an application by Wadera Qadir Bux, the chief of Rustam Zikri Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The petitioner maintained that the SHC, while disposing off his petition on September 23, 2008, had ordered the demolition of houses built in the common graveyard, made for the burial of village residents in the vicinity.

He had stated that when he and his family went to bury a grandson, they were stopped, after which he approached the relevant authorities and then the SHC, as no one else was helping him. The bench had directed Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town DDO revenue to demolish the illegal construction. The Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO had also been directed to ensure no illegal structure would be constructed in the graveyard.

On Tuesday, the bench while perusing the application and hearing the counsel for the petitioner, ordered for notices to be issued to the DDO revenue and advocate-general, Sindh, for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court. The advocate-general was also asked to ensure that the SHO attended the next hearing.
