The convoy was passing through Spinwam village, some 45 kilometres east of Miranshah, the main town of the North Waziristan tribal region which is a hub of Taliban and al Qaeda linked militants on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
Officials blamed "miscreants" --a term they often use for militants - for the attack.
"Two soldiers embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) and seven were injured. The roadside IED was planted by miscreants," a senior military official told AFP.
A second security official said one military truck was badly damaged in the attack.
The umbrella Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan faction and linked militants have led a bloody campaign against the Pakistani state in recent years, carrying out hundreds of attacks on security forces and government targets, concentrated largely in the northwest.

The number of Pakistani soldiers killed by terrorists exceeds those killed in all wars against India, besides causing deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. But the Pak military continues to protect them, refuses to launch decisive operation and still considers them as its assets which is beyond one's comprehension. Will ET publish an article by a retired Pak military General on this death wish policy ?
TTP forces massacre Pakistanis and regularly kill Pakistani Army personnel. Pakistani Army is not allowed to fight TTP. If Americans launch drones against TTP, they become the enemies of Pakistan. I guess Pakistanis have chosen suicide by TTP as a means to get out of the many problems that face their country.
M.emad, I suggest you pick up the gun and make up for their failures.
