LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge has fixed December 21 for recording the statement of the final prosecution witness in the blasphemy trial of Sawan Masih, whose case sparked the arson attack on Christian homes in Joseph Colony last May.

Syed Ameen Bokhari of the Balochistan Constabulary in Quetta, who was City SP and the investigation officer of the case at the time, had been summoned for December 7, but he wrote to the court saying he was busy with local election duties. He asked that the hearing be delayed.

According to the FIR of the case, complainant Shahid Imran stated that he had heard Sawan Masih use derogatory language about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
