The operations director of the North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) Sukkur will reportedly be sent home due to his poor performance after his contract expires on December 31, 2013.
A meeting of the NSUSC’s board of directors was held in Karachi on Friday to review the overall performance of the utility and its officers. Sources said that when the directors went through the track record of the corporation’s operations director, Abid Hussaini, they found that the overall performance of the officer remained poor since the utility took over the charge of water supply, sanitation and drainage from the Sukkur Municipal Corporation in January 2011.
The board of directors also went through various complaints against Hussaini’s performance after which they decided not to renew his contract beyond December 31. A show-cause notice was also served on the NSUSC Managing Director Niaz Shar for not meeting the expectations of the citizens, according to sources. The board also decided to form a committee, comprising relevant MPAs, deputy commissioners and municipal administrators as members, to supervise the working of the utility.
These decisions were confirmed by NSUSC Chairperson Abdul Jabbar Memon as well as Shar. While Shar said that his performance was not discussed in the meeting, Memon refrained from commenting on certain issues discussed. Earlier, objections were also raised on Shar’s appointment as the NSUSC’s managing director as people alleged that he was appointed in violation of the rules.
