CHITRAL:

The cleaner of an oil tanker was killed while his two helpers were injured when the vehicle skidded and plunge into a 400-feet gorge while returning to Dir from Chitral via Lowari Top on Saturday.

The oil tanker was supplying oil to Frontier Works Organisation in Chitral and was on its way back when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to slippery roads near Matti Nalla. As a result, Malik Javaid, a resident of Haripur, was killed and two others were injured.

Sultanuddin, an official of Ashrait police, said they rushed to the site as soon as they were informed about the accident, but could not start rescue work as the gorge was too deep and they did not have the necessary equipment to lift the tanker. “It (the body) will be pulled out from under the tanker on Sunday (today),” the official added.

He said they closed Lowari Top for traffic to avoid further accidents, but traffic was allowed to pass after drivers started protesting against the closure.
