According to the police, six inmates, who were being held in the juvenile prison, were trying to escape the facility at night, under the cover of darkness.
The fleeing inmates, identified as Abuzer, Muhammad Shafiq, Akbar Sher, Hidayatullah and Anwar Ali, were caught shortly after escaping the barracks. On the complaint of jail officials an FIR was lodged against them.
Two officials of the jail were also suspended from duty and an inquiry was launched against them.
The attempt to flee comes only a few months after the DI Khan jailbreak in June, wherein the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan stormed DI Khan Central Prison and freed more than 200 inmates, including high-profile militants.
Security was tightened in the wake of the jailbreak with personnel from Frontier Constabulary and Frontier Corps deployed at the Peshawar Central Prison.
