KARACHI:

The Education Fund for Sindh (EFS) signed a grant agreement of Rs152.5 million with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) on Thursday to facilitate the enrolment of over 17,500 underprivileged children in two districts of Sindh.

Established in 2012, the education fund is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to tackle the education crisis in Pakistan. “Our objective is to support over 17,500 underprivileged children during the academic year 2013-14 through this partnership,” said Khawaja Adeel Aslam, the chief executive officer at EFS.

Reflecting on the synergy between the two organisations, Aslam said that the TCF was one of the largest privately owned networks of low-cost formal education, operating a network of 910 schools, across 97 towns and cities across Pakistan. “Such strategic partnerships are valuable for achieving the shared objective of providing quality education to the out-of-school children,” he said.

With the second highest out-of-school population in the world and a fastest growing young population, it is critical to accelerate progress, said TCF president Asaad Ayub Ahmad.
