RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court on Wednesday awarded death sentences to a man and a woman found guilty of kidnapping and later killing a man despite taking ransom money from his family. The court also ordered the seizure of the moveable and immovable property of the convicts besides imposing fines of Rs400,000 on each. According to the prosecution, in 2007, Sumera Bibi and her accomplice called Dr Ruhail Umar to a house in the limits of the Airport police and held him hostage there. The convicts later demand a ransom of Rs10 million from his family, which was paid. The prosecution argued that Sumera and her accomplice killed Dr Umar despite receiving the ransom. The convicts were later arrested by the police, and confessed to the crime.
