Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan had announced that LG polls would be held on January 18 in Sindh.

However, Sindh local government and information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon today said holding elections in January is not possible and that they should be delayed till March.

He further said that the provincial government is legally allowed to devise poll schedule with the help of ECP.

Yes, indefinite delay is what PPP would like, but it's not going to happen. PPP needs more time to see how it can deprive urban Sindh's political parties' from gaining strength in local governments. PPP should keep on trying but keep one thing in mind: the more they will desist local government, the more they will strengthen demand for Karachi as a separate province. A time will come when PPP will wish they would have allowed local governments, elected freely and provided with proper funding.
