Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan had announced that LG polls would be held on January 18 in Sindh.
However, Sindh local government and information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon today said holding elections in January is not possible and that they should be delayed till March.
He further said that the provincial government is legally allowed to devise poll schedule with the help of ECP.

Date: The Supreme Court wanted polls to be held on November 27 in Sindh, however they were delayed because of delimitation-related issues.
Type: The constitution has left it up to the provinces to decide whether they want local candidates to contest the elections on a party ticket or independently. The Sindh government decided to hold elections on party basis.
Reservations: Constitutionally, all elected councils are required to reserve seating for minorities. The way Sindh has decided to organise local elections is stated below:

Yes, indefinite delay is what PPP would like, but it's not going to happen. PPP needs more time to see how it can deprive urban Sindh's political parties' from gaining strength in local governments. PPP should keep on trying but keep one thing in mind: the more they will desist local government, the more they will strengthen demand for Karachi as a separate province. A time will come when PPP will wish they would have allowed local governments, elected freely and provided with proper funding.
