ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad Police arrested 110 suspects during a search operation of slum areas in the jurisdiction of Sihala and Shahzad Town police stations on Sunday.
Police teams headed by Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shahzad Town Rana Tahir and SDPO Rural Tahir Mehmood took part in the search operation.
The teams nabbed 110 suspects altogether from Shakrial, Zia Masjid and Changar Colony, Rawat. The police recovered 40 motorcycles, four cars, two computers, 150 bottles of wine, two 30-bore pistols with ammunition, hashish and heroine from the suspects.
No cases have been registered against the suspects but investigations are underway, an official said.
The search operation was part of a campaign by the Islamabad Police to crackdown on suspected criminal elements in the capital’s slums.
The police have conducted similar search operations in other katchi abadis of the capital since August, despite protests from katchi abadi residents that the slums are not harbouring any militants as the police and interior ministry claim.
