Suspect in attack on Wali Babar case lawyer apprehended

Owners of two motorcycles, which were used in the Ancholi blasts, have been detained by the police.

Security forces on Saturday took a suspect into custody for his alleged involvement in an attack on a prosecution lawyer in the Wali Khan Babar murder case.

According to police sources, security forces raided the Darul Sehat Hospital where the accused, Shahid, was receiving treatment. He was taken into custody.

Sources said that the suspect, along with an accomplice had allegedly mounted an ultimately unsuccessful attack on senior lawyer Abdul Maroof, who is a case prosecutor in the journalist's murder. The suspects had attacked the lawyer at his house in Defence on November 21. Police units in the immediate vicinity had responded to the attack, wounding both the suspects as a result.

On Saturday, security forces traced one of the suspects to Darul Sehat Hospital, where he was taken into custody. His suspected accomplice remains at large.

Till the filing of this story, police sources said the suspect had not been transferred into their custody.


Owners of motorcycles used in Ancholi blast

Police on Saturday said that they had traced the owners of the two motorcycles which were used in the twin bombings in Ancholi on Friday night.

Officials said that they have detained the owners of motorcylces and were deepening their investigation into the case.

The motorcycles used in the blast bore registration numbers are KCM-3232 and KCB-8231.

At least seven people were killed and 28 others were injured when two planted explosives were remote-detonated in Ancholi late on Friday night. The blast destroyed four shops, one rickshaw and two cars, one of which belonged to a federal government official.
