HYDERABAD:

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) cut off power connections to the water filtration plants in the district on Thursday due to non-payment of utility bills.

The action will create temporary water shortage in the district. Meanwhile, like always, the authorities at the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) stated that they are seeking help from the provincial government for making part-payment to HESCO.

According to a HESCO spokesman Sadiq Kubar, the company severed all 202 electric connections for WASA as they could not pay their arrears, which have accumulated to Rs6.3 billion passing the due date, November 20.

The WASA supplies up to 75 million gallons water per day from its five filtration plants. However, the consumption demand reduces during winters to below 6 mgd.
