According to Reuters, two of the deceased were identified as teachers.
Express News reported that the missiles were fired at Islami Madrassa Muktaba Darul Uloom in Tal area of Hangu.
"The seminary belonged to one Qari Noor Muhammad, a previously unknown figure. It was not clear if he was present in the seminary at the time of attack", an official said.
Local security officials identified two of the dead as Mufti Ahmad Jan, the Haqqani network's spiritual leader and Mufti Hameedullah, also a member of the network.
Several senior Haqqani sources confirmed the death of Jan, aged in his 60s.
"He was the spiritual leader and head teacher of the Haqqani network," one source told AFP, adding that Jan was a member of the group's ruling council.
"He was receiving people who were coming to condole the death of Nasiruddin Haqqani because followers of were not able to meet any other member of Haqqani family."
Earlier this month the network's chief financier Nasirudddin Haqqani was gunned down in mysterious circumstances in a village on the edge of Islamabad.
Another Haqqani source said the seminary was an important rest point for members fighting in Afghanistan's restive Khost province.
"The seminary served as a base for the network where militants fighting across the border came to stay and rest, as the Haqqani seminaries in the tribal areas were targeted by drones," the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.
An intelligence source told Reuters separately that Sirajuddin Haqqani, the leader of Taliban-linked Haqqani network, was spotted at the seminary two days earlier.
This is the second drone strike in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in five years. An unmanned aircraft had earlier fired missiles in K-P's Bannu area in 2008.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the ministry has protested against the drone strike as it is a violation of Pakistani as well as International Law.
He further added that "this issue has also been raised with the United Nations and American officials."
Yesterday, the United States had assured Pakistan that it will temporarily call off the controversial drone campaign if the Taliban sat across the table with government negotiators for peace talks, the prime minister’s top foreign policy aide Sartaj Aziz had revealed.

Previous attacks
Today's drone strike was the first in the country since Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a similar attack in the North Waziristan tribal district on November 1.
On October 31, a drone had fired missiles at a target in Miranshah, North Waziristan killing at least three people. The drone had reportedly fired missiles at a room and vehicle in the Miranshah Bazaar that caused two large explosions and resulted in the deaths of three people, locals had said.
Drone damage
The number and identity of casualties is often hard to determine because the tribal areas are off-limits to foreign journalists and aid organisations, but the London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism estimates deaths at between 2,500 and 3,700.
Hundreds of civilians have died in the attacks, according to various estimates, prompting outrage in Pakistan and abroad.
A major report last month from rights campaigners Amnesty International said the US may be guilty of war crimes.
The Pakistani government officially condemns drone strikes as a violation of its sovereignty, and last month Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged US President Barack Obama to halt the programme during a meeting in Washington.
Despite their deep unpopularity in Pakistan, the US sees them as a vital tool in the fight against militants in the tribal areas.

@Asli TFTA Mard, and this drone is as accurate as the coach and mentor of great archrer called Arjun.....hopefully.
@numbersnumbers: Dear numbers,, You quite ridiculously deny casualties created by US/NATO, and never give proof of the Taliban casualties. You just continually give a re-run of US propaganda in regard to 9/11/OBL/Abbotabad/Taliban fairy tales. Glad you have stopped saying "WOW".
@Farooq: sir, could you explain why could you show only one family to showcase against drone strike. the entire world knows there were more than hundred strikes. what about the rest. show them to world thus world would back your claims.
@numbersnumbers: Iraq War Casualties. Dear numbers, I have noticed for some time that you have convenient eyesight problems. Good to see that you dropped "WOW".
@Sexton Blake: Would all please go to Wikipedia and look up "Casualties of the Iraq War" to see the wide variation of figures presented! BTW NOWHERE does it say that 600,000 Iraqis were killed by US Forces alone as you suggest!
Drone-acharya was a great warrior in ancient India. He has been born again to rescue innocent Pakistanis from the evil terrorists. Hail to the Drone-warrior!
Yours truly,
Asli TFTA mard.
@numbersnumbers: According to your beloved Wikipedia over 600,000 people have been killed by US forces in Iraq alone. Let us say that a third of them were children. I am still looking for accurate statistics in regard to the Taliban.
@Sexton Blake: WOW, So you say "US doing what it does best. Killing children"! And just how many children (and other innocents) has your beloved TTP slaughtered ON PURPOSE versus the number of children (and other innocents ) killed in collateral damage by the US???
The US doing what it does best. Killing children.
Dear me! the plot is getting thicker. Now the drones are plying into settled areas. Why should we be surprised? We all know what our strategic assets are doing? I think the time has come to get rid of these assets otherwise the drone is going to invade Islamabad (Barah Kahoo) in search of these assets which are a headache for Afghan Gov. We should ask all Afghanis to leave our land and on our part, we should pay attention to our own house instead of meddling with hornet's nest (Afghanistan).
@Sarah: Drones do not have the feature to eflect from other air crafts. Hence it operates in areas where other passenger or combat planes do not operate. Besides they must be informing Pakistan military before they are airbourne to avoid mishaps.

@Hari Om: In my opinion Pakistan army is not upto task after its former performances but what surprises me is that not a single hobby flyer or a para glider from the 180 million people is trying to bring the beast down.
Rex Minor
@yusufzai: But this is the first time that it hit the school, despite Malala and Prime Minister visits to the hite house!!
Rex Minor
@unbelievable: Your sick type of thinking really means that any brutal regime has the right to attack anybody.
A very good idea, make the north waziristan a seperate country, so that pakistan do not need to cry that there soverign terittory is violated.
Now it is very clear that drones will fire all accross Pakistan.
@Zen:
yes I am shameless when it comes to speaking the truth. Your comment shows that you can't even stomach the thought of having drones in your city because apparently YOU live there! how about innocent people who live in Hangu district? are the not human beings? Are they all terrorists? Shame on you for being such an ignorant hypocrite.
You provide weapons, intelligence, money and safe haven to Haqqani - and have the gall to think that the USA has no right to do anything about it. Quit providing sanctuary and support to the Haqqani and the drone issue will go away.
Uncle Sam waited for full eight hours and after seeing no sign of "peace negotiation" between the Old Man (Sartaz Aziz) and the Bearded Men, decided to swing into action to dispatch some of the pious men to heaven! Kuch galat kiya kyaa?
The Rawalpindi riots in Muharram were caused by a seminary that was engaged in anti-Shia activities. So its not like these seminaries are full of innocent students. What are these Haqqanis doing in Pakistan they should leave the country and take their war with them.
@khan76: Why shame on America? Should it not be on the GOP and the military. Stay confused.
Thank you USA for doing the job that our government and army should be doing.
@MA: Are you comparing Lahore and Karachi with the tribal areas? Shame on you.
@MA: Are you comparing Lahore and Karachi with the tribal areas? Shame on you.
May the drone be on all the terrorists wherever they are. USA thank you.
To be fair, neither the Prime Minister or his advisor were aware that DRONES are under the command of NSA with a million plus force and not the white House who has asked for a review of NSA. We are in the cyber age and therefore it is upto the Pakistan counter-intelligence activity to determine the source which could be situated in Islamabad. Only last weak it was reported that the German military has been providing coordinates for the targets in the afghan-Pakistan border area.
Rex Minor
so who is next?????
After admitting of having problem within Pakistan during a press conference with president Obama, what did PM do since then? Nothing. When you can not do for something you yourself admitted and others who are at the receiving end of this menace eliminate these extremists elements you start veiling and protesting. That is why people all around the world do not take you seriously and consider you irresponsible and duplicitous.
Easiest way to stop drones is to start punishing the terrorists and killers of innocent Pakistanis. It is as simple as that.
@objective observer: an absurd comment.
The people killed were cowards indoctrinating children to be suicide bombers. This drone attack saved innocent lives.
@S: you really think that confused "liberals" would support drones in major cities too. You're a fool. How come no op-ed or editorial is been written then. There are more terrorists in Karachi and Lahore alone than in KP.
@Truth before Self: i pray Inshallah your home and family members get droned too. Though some would think you as a terrorist and some would call it "collateral Damage". But who cares, eh! Drone is always right! Your remaining family members will also get a cheque of Rs 1 million for each death. Don't worry we will extend your "Heartiest congratulations" to USA too. How does that sound?
please please ET, print this please.....
Why kill Mr Jan from a missile from Drone....if he is suspected to be hiding there then why not conduct a joint raid at the seminary and arrest and charge him for the crimes he supposedly committed.... this is illegal and inhumane !
Look at the picture of the article. I see a terrorist kid in the pic. What kind of people have we become. We support those who take lives of kids.
@REALIST:
"These terrorists should be eliminated irrespective of their location"
we have lots of terrorists in Lahore and Karachi too.....Will you and your 17 supporters endorse drones in those cities too.
@imran ali: Shame on you. IK speaks for the civilians out there. You see in the article picture there is a small 8 year old terrorist trying to pick up nuclear armed bomb from within the madrasa. Go bomb him!!! I wish a similar bomb strikes where you went to study as well.
and the Irony is, they are calling it an attack on KP and it should be attack on Pakistan
This is clear provocation. Now I think PTI is fully justified in blocking NATO supply line.
@tahir:
That would be a dream come true as a lot of Taliban supporters actually reside in these places.
Shame on Pakistan government and armed forces.ispr responded on munwar hassans calling hakeem ullah shaheed but not on drone in the setteled area of kpk.shame,shame,shame
I very much like imrans comments that first our government and armed forces got money to make jihadis,and now they are getting money to kill them.what a great policy we adopted.Shame on america and all the drons supporters.
As long as these drones target "PAKHTUN areas" no problem.i,ll love to see your response when they hit you in your "REAL PAKISTAN"..I,LL tell these liberals that first of all, show some humanity yourself then criticize others for their inhumanity.
The worst thing that could have happened to Pakistan was Haqqani being shot in a bustling city. He was living there in plain sight while it is common knowledge that he was in the list of the world's most wanted terrorist. Pakistan has no leg to stand on when it comes to asking the US to stop drone strikes.
@ Hari Om.
There is also more than meets the eye regards Pakistan’s position on the US Drone campaign over territory controlled by Pakistan. The dimension that I find particularly intriguing is the conspiracy of silence indulged by the civilians of Pakistan who oppose these strikes on the key issue of the Pakistan Military’s connivance or incompetence in permitting these strikes to have persisted for a decade. That to me suggests that despite Pakistan enjoying one of its sporadic democratic interregnums, the civilian population seems to have a visceral fear of annoying the Military by asking the right questions.
Disapproval of US drone strikes is not universal in Pakistan. A large number of comments above seem to support the drone strikes because they claim to eliminate some terrorists. Some comments even say that this job should have been done by Pakistani forces. Many are thanking USA for this action. Someone even asked why Pakistan is not shooting down the drones. There may be substance in the idea that at some level the drone strikes were approved by Pakistani authorities. And what happened to Imran Khan’s idea of stopping supplies to ISAF via KP? Has he been asked to hold his horses? Lots of people in Pakistan seem to think that drone strikes serve a useful purpose. V. C. Bhutani, Delhi, 21 Nov 2013, 1605 IST
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.. Shame on those who support this cruelty. I am sure ET will never publish my comments, as our media doesn't have courage to speak the truth. Those who thinks talibans as the funded by US, please clear my logic, why USA is killing his own agents???
nation is waiting for the reaction from spoke person of TTP....Imran Khan
The stopping of drones was linked to ' talks ' ........ no talks ....... no stopping of drones. The drone does not have a mind of its own, it does what its told to do, so intelligence on the ground is the key factor....... not a simple puzzle.
But I thought...Sartaj Aziz said there would be no more drone strikes.......Someone really needs to resign on this issue
@Hari Om:
How can facilitators of the drones shoot them down ?
@Hari Om thats called- running with hares and hunting with hounds...
In the best interest of Pakistan we need to strike the TTP and their SYMPATHISERS where ever they are. Thank you USA. DEATH TO THE ENIMES OF PAKISTAN.
@Reasoner: Not surprised of your slave thinking.
As a non-Pakistani I am completely perplexed as to why there is not a single recorded attempt by the Military of Pakistan to thwart any one of the some 340 plus US drone strikes spread over almost a decade, despite loudly voiced disapproval from three separate administrations?
All this despite Pakistan being equipped with the requisite military hardware to thwart drone attacks such as the Spada 2000 SAM’s, RBS-70 Bolide MANPADS, ZDK-03 AWAC’s, Saab 2000 Erieye AEW’s, AN/TPS-77 Transportable radars, F-16 fighters, AAMRAAM and Sidewinder AAM’s.
All this also given that Pakistan is fully within its rights to shoot down any drone intruding into its territory.
Why then this lack of any recorded attempt to thwart US drone strikes in Pakistan’s territory by the Military?
@Reasoner: If Pakistan Air force is having this facility of Drone why we allow American's to do so? The so called enemies of american's Talbans which are there friends in Syria & Libya. No one from outside should be allowed to take action.
Talks have to begin for drone strikes to stop. Can Taliban declare a date with some sense of urgency? Can Imran Khan Sahab use his influence with the Taliban to speed up the 'drone halt' process?
These terrorists should be eliminated irrespective of their location.
@Zaka @umer : Do you really think that all madressa students that were killed were terrorists? Just because US droned some people does not make them killers of humanity...... just imagine a scenario where your family members die in a drone and people call them killers of humanity...
Oh now America has even the guts to drone into a province. Guys be afraid of the day when drones come to Punjab and Sindh
@RUKHSAR
Ya, till last pakistani
@Truth before Self
I hope they attack a terrorist residing near your house, & you get killed in that as a "Collatoral damage"!! How does that feel now?
@ozair: is there any peace process going on?
@RUKHSAR : @S : @Sane : @Zaka
Do all of you know the killed persons personally that they are extremists or terrorists ? Stop talking this non sense and favouring the Drones. How you feel if one of your closed one will be killed in those strikes and all others LIKE YOU are saying them terrorists.
Also, I totally agree with @tahir.
Great Work, got to hit those terrorist sanctuaries hard, does not matter where ever they are ...
In Madrassas, there are children too, small children, usually orphans. Any word as to how many childern our great warrior the US killed this time?
@Reasoner: IK is obviously very tired of talking too much. Therefore he is sleepy when he threatens. Blocking the NATO routes is another way of harming the country. In fact, GOP should privatize the route. Salams
cleaning saudi footprints is not easy but possible. the way to go bro!
Why is ET not publishing my comment? Were these people really terrorists or were they people who couldn't afford to be educated at the English medium schools? If these people were innocent then Yes, the blood of these people is on Nawaz Sharif's hands for not taking a stand. ET publish.
@ashar:
hahahaha keep dreaming dear .,.... what was the effect of eight-month long blockade of NATO supply routes ? (after Salala check-post attack)
How many foreign soldiers died due to starvation then ?
If our government does act against terrorists then we have to seek foreign help. I am in full support of drones till all killers are eliminated.
Drone Drone Come Again Kill the Taliban Once Again
Question to all the liberal fascist and warmongers Pakistanis,.. 8 ppl killed including 2 teachers,. were they all terrorist?
they are always lying... This is Pakistani Politics
Pakistan droned once again.
I am again expecting a statement from the PM house ! We Condemn the attack and its against Pakistan sovereignty :) 14th Aug 1947, we are making ourself a fool that we are an independent nation.
Of course drones should hit any place in any city where terrorists are hiding. If we do not take them out somebody else would do it. We don't want to do anything ourselves with all our army and war toys and are against others doing it for us for free!
High time to hand over Pakistan to US. Then, atleast we can fight with them openely and with full force. Pakistan getting money from America and killing us. Those were students of madrasa. May Allah SWT rest their soul in peace. May Allah destroy the enemies of muslims.
@tahir,
The "liberals" would be supporting drones in Lahore, Islamabad etc. too if the establishment pollutes those areas with its "strategic assets" as well. No one wants to live under the extremists but sadly that's all establishment's greed and avarice have given the people of KP. That's why drones are necessary and that's why the peaceful majority of natives support drones because they eradicate extremists from their midst.
Drones attacks should be continued till last "TERRORIEST"
The only honest and straightforward politician Imran khan.. Just block the Nato supply. we are with you.
100% correct....:
For your information, the native people who reside where these take place actually SUPPORT drone strikes because those strikes are precise and take away the extremists with the least collateral damage. Those extremists have destroyed the native's income and peace of mind. The outrage against the strikes is more of a Punjabi phenomenon. Most Pakhtuns who care for their land and for their people actually support drones because those drones target the extremists who have turned people's lives upside down.
Thank you USA. These religious extremists need to be wiped out. As we saw in Rawalpindi, these people are animals devoid of any common sense or an iota of humanity. Whn they understand that their actions will result in severe action against them, then only can the state have any control.
@Neo: Why not keep one at your home?
Drones are most effective and honest weapon against terrorism and extremism.
@tahir: Bro, you will be surprised! They will find a reason to be happy. Might as well dissolve Pakistan and merge with another country & they could care less.
Shame America, Pakistan Government and the supporters of Drones.....
Are we back to square one? Army should intervene.
Thank you drone for doing the job that the army and police are supposed to do i.e. cleansing the area of extremists and protecting the civilian population.
Heartiest congratulations to USA for this brave act. It's a pity that only 8 were killed! Please continue these strikes till there are no more terrorists to kill. Thank You!
Keep it up ET, the fascists calling themselves liberals and all others supporting drones...keep supporting drones.... but i just wish they attack in lahore, karachi, isb also..... i hope these fascists will endorse those attacks as well.
America is very rightly taking care of its own interests which may or may not be linked to our interests.
so now drone attacks have started happening in kpk tomorrow it will happen in islamabad
And just yesterday Sartaj Aziz was saying US will not do any drone attack during Taliban peace talks ...........Rubbish !
My head is spinning. It looked settled yesterday. Damn
