Labour rights: Brick kiln workers demand raise
Brick kiln workers say they would stage protect demonstration in front of CM’s house if their wages were not raised.
FAISALABAD:
Brick kiln workers on Wednesday said they would stage a protect demonstration in front of the chief minister’s house if their wages were not raised. Baba Lateef Ansari, a Bhatta Mazdoor Labour Union leader, told the media on Wednesday that “the brick kiln owners are exploiting the workers and are reluctant to give them their legal rights.” He said the government had passed labour laws in favour of the workers but they were not enforced. “We have requested the law enforcement agencies as well as the government to help implement the laws,” he said. Ansari said the brick kiln workers should get fair wages, social security cards, health insurance, death grants, marriage grants and educational facilities for their children. “Mass protests will be launched on Friday [November 22]...the first rally will be staged in front of the chief minister’s residence in Lahore,” he said. “We will take further steps if our demands are not,” Ansari said.
