GUJRAT:

Unidentified men shot the University of Gujrat’s director of student services and his driver dead in an apparent incident of targeted killing on Tuesday morning.

The suspects on motorcycles intercepted Professor Shabeer Hussain Shah’s car on Jalalpur Road – not too far from a police checkpost – at around 9 am, when it was on its way to the university. They opened fire at him and his driver, Khadim Hussain.

The police initiated the search to arrest the suspects but no arrests could be made until the filing of this report. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Gujrat DPO Ali Nasir Rizvi said that the target killers had shot both the victims at point-blank range. At least seven rounds were found from the site of the murder, he added. “We are collecting all evidence, including CCTV footage,” he explained.

According to university officials, Prof Shabeer had been receiving threats for some time. He had also written a letter to the government to provide him security but he received no response.
