The secretary had earlier ordered the removal of 12,900 employees, alleging that they were inducted against the rules.
According to a notification issued by the provincial government, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation former administrator Javeed Haneef has now been appointed the secretary of the department. On the directives of the chief minister, the local government department had started a probe into the matter. In his report, the additional secretary of the department had said that around 12,900 employees had been appointed in various districts of the province since June 30, 2012 in violation of merit. The report further added that the orders were given to many candidates who did not even appear in interviews. Submitting the inquiry report, the local government department issued the notification to sack all these employees.

But this created a controversy within the ranks of the Pakistan Peoples Party and many senior ministers termed it a conspiracy and demanded action against the secretary of the local government department.
“The CM has not given the directives to remove anyone but the bureaucrats have issued the notification and removed 12,900 employees. We will take action against the bureaucrats responsible for it,” said Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon, adding that the PPP government aims to provide jobs and not dismiss people from services. Later, the Sindh government declared the removal notification null and void and ordered the employees to continue their jobs.
