Doctors continued to boycott the OPDs at all state-run hospitals in Balochistan on Sunday, for the second consecutive day, to protest against the non-recovery of abducted cardiologist Prof Munaf Tareen.
However, doctors provided emergency services to patients at Bolan Medical Complex Teaching Hospital (BMC) and Provincial Sandeman Hospital.
Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) will file a legal petition in Balochistan High Court on Monday (today) over the non-recovery of Dr Munaf, said Dr Sayed Hashmi, PMA General Secretary.
He said the petition will also mention that doctors are not being provided proper security and have been subject to kidnappings, targeted killings and enforced disappearances for the past five years. Hashmi has been appointed as chairman of Doctors’ Legal Committee.
It has been 65 days since Prof Dr Munaf was kidnapped. Police have failed to find any clue to his whereabouts.
OPDs were closed at BMC, Sandeman Hospital, Fatima Jinnah Chest Hospital, Helper Eye Hospital, Shaikh Zaid Hospital of Heart Diseases and Benazir Shaheed Hospital in Quetta. People coming for medical checkup faced hardship as doctors were not available at hospitals.
