ABBOTTABAD:

The Ashura procession passed peacefully in Abbottabad amid strict security for mourners.

The main procession after passing through the designated routes ended at the central imambargah.

A heavy contingent of police had been deployed along the procession route and some entry points had been blocked by placing trucks and barbed wires.

Members of the peace committee along with the district administration remained with the Ashura procession till it ended. Special medical camps had also been set up by the district administration along the procession route to provide first aid to the self-flagellators.

The municipal staff also offered sabeel to mourners at different points of the procession.

Abbottabad District Police Officer Muhammad Ali Gandapur with divisional administration monitored the procession from the main control room established by the police. “Due to elaborate security arrangements and public support, no untoward incident took place in the city,” the police said.
