LAHORE:

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhary Shafique Ahmed on Saturday ordered a high security alert in the city in view of the sectarian clash in Rawalpindi.

He also directed the divisional superintendents, sub-divisional police officers and station house officers to remain in their areas until further orders.

He appreciated the efforts of the security personnel in maintaining law and order in the city during the first 10 days of Muharram.

“I hope that the police force will continue to perform their duties with the same spirit to maintain law and order in the city and to protect the life and property of citizens,” he told a meeting of senior police officials.

He said the investigation staff should remain in the field to help the operations wing with security of places of worship.

The meeting was attended by Investigations DIG Zulfiqar Hameed, Operations DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar, Security DIG Zahid Hussain Shirazi, Investigation SSP Abdul Rab, Administration SSP Rana Shahzad Akbar, Security SP Salman Ali Khan, CTO Sohail Chaudhary, Headquarters SP Maroof Wahla, CIA SP Muhammad Umar Virk, and divisional SPs of operations and investigation wings.

“A small mistake could destabilise the law and order situation of the city. All officers must be vigilant and remain in the field in their areas until further orders,” he said.

Ahmed also directed the divisional SPs of operations and investigation wing to remain in close contact with the religious leaders and members of peace committees to prevent any untoward incident.
