KARACHI: As many as 32 suspects, including alleged militants of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) allegedly involved in more than 16 cases of targeted killings of policemen, were apprehended during the ongoing operation in the city on Tuesday.

Two alleged militants of the TTP - Abdullah alias Mukhtar and Hameed alias Hamid alias Pehlwan - were arrested by district West police. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference by district West police chief DIG Javed Odho at his office. “The TTP militants have killed 16 policemen in SITE and four men on suspicion of being police informants.” The police have been searching for them and finally managed to arrest them during an encounter at their hideout in Mochko in Baldia Town.

“The militants had received training from Afghanistan,” the DIG added. These militants were assigned the task of killing these policemen and their informants, he said, adding that the targeted policemen include two commandos of the Rapid Response Force.

Separately, district East police claim to have recovered a huge cache of weapons from Shah Faisal Colony. The recovery of the weapons was disclosed during a press conference by district East SSP Syed Pir Muhammad Shah.

“These weapons were concealed in three bags and recovered during a security sweep before the Muharram procession in Shah Faisal Colony,” said SSP Shah. “We are investigating if these weapons were meant to be used in terror activities during Muharram or dumped by the culprits out of fear of the ongoing targeted raids.”

In another raid, two alleged criminals - Mohammad Ali and Ahmed Ali - were arrested during a police encounter in Zaman Town in Korangi. Police officials said the arrested men had been involved in number of cases of street crime.

Meanwhile, the Rangers claimed to have apprehended 28 alleged criminals during the ongoing targeted operations in parts of the city.
