LAHORE:

Capital City Police Officer Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed visited the route of the main Zuljinnah procession and the command and control centre at the Operations DIG’s office to review Muharram security arrangements on Monday.

Operations Deputy Inspector General Rana Abdul Jabbar, Chief Traffic Officer Sohail Chaudhry, the City division SP, members of the Zuljinnah procession’s management, several Shiite prayer leaders and members of the Aman Committee accompanied the CCPO.

DIG Jabbar and Security SP Ali Salman Khan briefed the CCPO about the command and control centre.

The CCPO directed DIG Jabbar to implement a four-tier security plan at all processions and majalis in sensitive areas.

Under this plan, the participants would be frisked at four check points.

He told the DIG to depute 50 additional policemen in plain clothes for the Zuljinnah procession. He said the entire route should be checked thoroughly before the procession began. Sniffer dogs should be used for this purpose, he said.

The Capital City Police Officer told the police to work with the city district government to install surveillance (CCTV) cameras and remove encroachments along the procession route. CCPO Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed told Operations DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar to ensure that no irrelevant people were staying in houses situated on the route of the main procession. He said that surety certificates should be obtained from the owners of these houses.

He requested Shiite prayer leaders to register the volunteers with the City division SP by Tuesday (today) so that security duty cards are issued to them on time. CCPO Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed said they would help the police frisk the participants. “We must work together to help avoid any untoward incidents,” he said.
