KARACHI:

At least two mourners suffered injuries when unidentified men opened fire and pelted stones at a Muharram procession in Surjani Town on Monday.

The procession was being carried out from Khuda ki Basti to Surjani Town. The firing caused panic among the participants, who then staged a protest.

SHO Ashfaq Baloch said that no major incident took place as the police arrived on time, adding that no one suffered bullet injuries. The injured were released after first-aid treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. On the other hand, the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen condemned the attack. MWM Karachi chapter general-secretary Hassan Hashmi said that “fanatics” and “terrorists” of a banned group had carried out the attack.
