KARACHI:

Despite a drop in mercury levels, the people of Karachi are still grappling with prolonged hours of load-shedding. During the Sindh assembly proceeding on Monday, MPAs complained about the ‘hide and seek’ of electricity which has created many problems during the month of Muharram.

On a point of order, MQM MPA Ashfaque Mangi diverted Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani’s attention towards his Malir constituency by saying, “I have registered many complaints with the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) officials against load-shedding but no one seems to be resolving the matter.” He informed that the KESC was issuing exorbitant bills but when it comes to ensuring uninterrupted power supply, the officials do not pay heed.

Nisar Ahmed Khuhro demanded the KESC avoid power cuts during school hours. Information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the CM has directed the power utility companies, including KESC and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, to avoid load-shedding till Muharram 10.

After hearing the point of orders, the speaker prorogued the session indefinitely.
