SUKKUR:

Unless lawlessness is curbed in the country, there is no point in holding the local government elections, said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s (JUI-F) central secretary general, Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.

He was addressing a press conference in Madrassa Hamadia Manzil Gah Sukkur on Saturday. “I don’t understand why the Supreme Court of Pakistan is pushing a matter which comes under the provinces. We have always respected the verdicts of the apex court and hope that the court will respect the resolution of the parliament which has demanded postponement of the local government elections,” he said. “How we can hold local government elections when lawlessness is prevailing in many parts of the country, especially in Balochistan.”

JUI Sindh secretary general, Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, said the party’s membership campaign is held after every three years and the campaign in Sindh started on Saturday.
