ISLAMABAD:
An Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) officer claimed to have been injured on Thursday when a commuter van driver hit the officer with his van and fled the scene.
According to the police, Sub-Inspector Munir Ahmed was trying to move the van (LEX-6010) away from a no-parking zone at Mandi Mor, near the vegetable market. The commuter van had stopped to look for passengers and had caused a traffic jam, the police said.
When Ahmed tried to get the driver to move, he tried to drive away quickly, allegedly hitting the officer. A case was registered against the unidentified driver at the Sabzi Mandi Police Station on charges of obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions, assault to deter public servant from discharging his duty, rash driving and causing hurt due to rash or negligent driving under sections 353, 186, 279 and 337 of the PPC.
The investigating officer on the case said the driver had not been identified or arrested yet. But since the car registration number is known, his name would be determined soon, the officer said.
He said the extent of the ITP officer’s injuries would be known once the medical report comes back.
