Diplomats at a briefing session on Friday pledged to provide assistance for the development of Pakistan’s agriculture sector. The session was organised by Pakistan Agriculture Council (PAC) at the Canadian High Commissioner’s residence.
PAC gave a presentation on challenges and opportunities in Pakistan’s agriculture and food sector.
Canadian High Commissioner Greg Giokas said “With this informative exchange, the diplomatic community and international organisations involved in assisting Pakistan’s agriculture development have identified areas for support and specific long-term objectives”. Members of the discussion welcomed PAC’s formation and hoped it will play a valuable role in interacting with domestic and international agriculture officials.
They encouraged PAC to provide ideas and support to the provincial and federal governments for developing sound policies to help create a more competitive, efficient and sustainable agriculture sector in Pakistan.
PAC CEO Arif Nadeem said “Pakistan has a strong, dynamic and diversified agriculture sector and it is vital to develop a coherent strategy with all stakeholders onboard”.
