
The officials of Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed to have apprehended three suspects allegedly involved in extortion activities in the city.
According to SIU officials, the arrests were made during a raid at the gang’s hideout in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The ring leader, Faraz aka Tipu, was also arrested during the raid, which was conducted on a tip-off. The identity of the other two arrested men remains undisclosed.
SIU Chief SP Farooq Awan said that the suspects were involved in a number of extortion cases, specifically targeting doctors and businessmen.
Separately, the Rangers conducted raids in parts of the city, including Macchar Colony, Azizabad and Shah Faisal Colony. Snap checking was also carried out in Bin Qasim, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gadap. According to the Rangers spokesperson, around 43 criminals were arrested. Weapons, including light machine guns and submachine guns, were also recovered.
Meanwhile, the Karachi police claimed to have apprehended 90 alleged criminals.
