TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a US drone strike.
The Council, which is a political coalition of numerous religious groups hailing from the 'Sunni' tradition of Islam, issued two fatwas based on the opinion of around 30 'Muftis' on Friday.
SIC Chairman Hamid Raza Rizvi announced that the collective opinion from all Muftis said calling a man responsible for the loss of so many lives, a 'martyr' went against the teachings of Quran and Sunnah.
Earlier this week, Chairman Jamaat-e-Islami Munawwar Hasan and the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had remarked that TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud was a 'martyr', considering the circumstances of his death.
Rehman had gone to the extent of saying anyone at all killed by the US would be a martyr, in his opinion.
The SIC disapproved of this comment and in a second fatwa, also thumbed down the idea of justifying killings in the name of revenge for drone attacks.
The Council maintained that the inhuman drone attacks represented the worst violation of laws, morals and basic tenets of humanity, but killing innocent people as a way of 'avenging' them was unacceptable.
Chairman Hamid Raza also asked Rehman to take his words back.

In the UK it is true some sunni ulema from the berelvis do say such things but it is also a fact that wahabis,salafis, takfiris were the firstto declare to pray behind berelvi imams invalidates your namaz. These salafis/Wahabis have now gone to the extent that they declare Deobandis and Tabligh e jamat the same as the berelvis.....

This is a baseless propaganda and all the independent sources included BBC and CNN has rebutted it. Only Indian and Bangladeshi authors are still supporting the figures. In 1971 there was a civil war where soldiers were killed by Indian trained, equipped and funded Mukti Bahni and Army was killing rebels.
What do these men want? Only they know. The nation must now identify and decide finally what they want from these two anti-Pakistan religious parties. Can someone (esp the likes of Munnawar Hasan or Fazlur Rehman) PLEASE now declare the SIC as a "kaafir" (for daring to contradict their "fatwa" of Hakimullah as MARTYR) ... ??? After all, there has to be some clarity here... and what's more it would appear that most Pakistanis are behind the sentiments of their elected leaders! Just tell me, how many of these so-called "luminaries" of the SIC have got elected... and with how many votes from the common man of Pakistan??? So what right do they have, compared to the politico "brave-hearts"? What's more, do they have to face the bullets and bombs on a daily basis that the politicos have to face? This was nonsense, the debate is not who is shaheed or not that all about the Judgement day. No one has have the proof of killing innocent Muslims instead US and other forces.

Unfortunate that there needs to be such a fatwa in the first place to counter such twisted ideological insanity by treacherous pro-Taliban Fazl-ur-Rehman and their Wahhabi/Deoband/Salafi likes who have hi-jacked our religious narrative, let alone common sense.
I also rather like to hear hypocrite/munafiq Munawar Hasan and his JI party, who have called terrorist OBL a martyr too and have a history of hiding Al Qaeda operatives, declared banned extremists by the government instead, because this is really the height of it.
This statement proves that some of our brothers still have courage and shame on the killings of more than 50 thousand innocent Muslims by these fanatic terrorists. Unless we all stand up against these savages they would finish our Pakistan. In the war between the extremists and moderate Muslims there are no choices but to stand up.
