ANP demands rangers presence for by-polls
Shahi Syed says rangers need to be deployed at all polling stations ahead of the 17th October by-polls in Karachi.
KARACHI:
ANP's Sindh President, Shahi Syed says a debacle similar to that of 12th May, 2008 might occur if rangers are not deployed at all polling stations ahead of the 17th October by-polls in Karachi.
While talking to the media in Karachi, Syed threatened to boycott the by-polls if rangers are not deployed.
He said that the Army and government should collaborate to ensure safety at polling stations adding that said rangers shoud be given full authority on the day of the polls to maintain law and order.
The ANP leader said that it is high time the government took action against the present situation in Karachi.
The Sindh government has requested the Army to stay on alert for by-polls scheduled for 17th October in the Orangi Area of Karachi.
The Cheif Electon commissioner yesterday suggested the army should be deputed to avoid any untoward incident.
This information comes as target killings continue in Karachi. The MQM has accused the Sindh government of protecting Lyari gang war members who it suspects are involved in the killings of its party’s workers.
