Two brothers were killed on Friday when an air tank exploded apparently due to over filling near Ahmadpur East.   Police said Muhammad Waheed and Muhammad Naveed owned a tyre repair shop on Ahmadpur Road.


They said they were busy with work, when the air tank exploded due to over filling. Both of the men were killed on the spot.

Oil factory fire

Crude oil worth hundreds of thousands of rupees burned in a fire at a factory on Khanewal Road in Multan.

Rescue officials said some workers were welding a grill near an oil tank. They said the fire was started by a welding spark.

While workers ran to save their lives, but the fire soon spread to three adjacent houses that were gutted.



It took fire fighters two hours to put out the fire.


Later, residents of the area staged a protest demonstration against hazardous factories in residential areas. They said the government should ensure that all factories were shifted away from residential area.

Police said the owner of the factory said the incident was a result of an accident.

No one has been arrested so far.

Grid station fire causes millions of rupees damage

A fire at a grid station control room in Cheechawatni was followed by an explosion that resulted in a blackout in the area for several hours.

Electricity supply is yet to be restored.

Executive Engineer Mehr Allah Yar told The Express Tribune that the fire had been started by an electric short circuit. He said the control room was badly damaged. He said an electric panel had been completely burned. He said the fire was put out in an hour.

No one was injured in the incident.

The executive engineer said that mechanical teams from Multan, Vehari and Sahiwal had been called to fix the problem so that electricity supply to the area could be restored at the earliest.
