Bad cops: ‘Cops took away our cows, mobile phones and calling cards’
SHOs of Nawab Town, Shahdra summoned.
LAHORE:
Two additional district and sessions judges on Friday sought comments from station house officers of Nawab Town and Shahdra whose officials have been accused of implicating a man in a false case, forcibly taking away 14 cows and snatching mobile phones.
Petitioner Anwar Masih told the court that his son Amir Masih ran a mobile phone shop where he also sold calling cards and mobile phone accessories. He said Constables Muhammad Majid, Muhammad Sarfraz and Abdul Ghafoor often visited his store and took away calling cards without paying for them. He said they threatened to lodge cases against Amir if he did not cooperate.
He said a few days ago, the officials visited the shop again and demanded a Nokia phone. He said when Amir refused to provide one, they sent ASI Tahir and some other officials to the shop who took away four Nokia mobile phones, Rs15,000 and calling cards worth Rs3,000 from the shop.
He told the court that his son had protested against their conduct but instead of returning his articles, the police had implicated him in a false case and arrested him.
Another petition was filed by Muhammad Sardar who told the court that his son and some police officials including Sub Inspector Nadeem had visited his house and taken away 14 cows.
He said the police appeared to be helped by his son, Allah Dita. The petitioners told the court that they had visited Nawab Town and Shahdra Town police stations to lodge their complaints against the offending officials but the police had protected their colleagues. After hearing their complaints, the judges summoned the station house officers of both police stations for their comments.
