A former SHO was ordered to pay Rs2.7 million by a jirga on the charge of killing an innocent villager four months ago during an encounter in the katcha area.
A jirga was held in village Qamber Bachkani to reconcile matters over a murder of a Bachkani tribesman. Presided over by Bharchoondi Pir Sharif Mian Abdul Khaliq and a Bachkani tribe elder Sher Ahmed Khan Bachkani, the jirga heard what both parties had to say.
After thorough discussion, the jirga declared the former SHO guilty of killing Ghulam Sarwar aka Challoo Bachkani. The jirga imposed a fine of Rs2.7 million as blood money on the officer. The officer, accepting the verdict, paid Rs100,000 on the spot and promised to pay the remaining amount in equal installments.
When contacted, SSP Kashmore Younus Chandio expressed his ignorance about the jirga and said that the SHO has been suspended.
