Higher Education Commission (HEC) has complained of a lack of cooperation by universities in the fake degrees probe.

HEC Chairman, Dr Javed Laghari asserted that the commission is unable to complete the degree verification process due to a lack of cooperation by universities.

Talking to Express News, the HEC chiarman said the Election Commission has been apprised of the situation.

He said the verification process comes to a dead end when universities do not provide records, and paliamentarians cannot be directly asked.

HEC has confirmed 58 fake degrees, after authenticating and forwarding 553 degrees to the election commission.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission said the HEC is bound to complete the degrees verification process in compliance with Supreme Court orders.
