FAISALABAD:

Less than 24 hours after a Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) worker was killed on Thursday from an electric shock, another worker died on Friday in a similar situation. Two other workers were injured.

Police said assistant linesman Bilal Ahmad, Umar Hayat and lines fitter Maula Bukhsh were cleaning a grid station in Bhalwal subdivision, when they touched some live wires.

They were taken to Civil Hospital in Kharian, from where Ahmad and Bukhsh were referred to Allied Hospital in Faisalabad owing to critical condition. Bilal succumbed to his injures a few hours later.

Doctors treating Bukhsh said that he was in critical condition.

The family of the deceased later staged a protest demonstration against Fesco officers in front of Civil Hospital. They demanded that the government act against Bhalwal grid station authorities. They said the workers were forced to work with live wires.

They blamed the Bhalwal grid station executive engineer for not ensuring that workers were provided adequate safety gear on duty, especially when working with live wires.

A police team visited the scene. They assured the protesters that action would be taken against those responsible.

Cases registered against three FESCO officers

Meanwhile, a case was registered against three Fesco officers, including a sub divisional officer, on charge of negligence that allegedly led to the death of a worker on Thursday.

No one has been arrested so far.

The family of the deceased worker, Ikramullah, had accused Chak Jhumra Sub Divisional Officer Muhammad Amir, Lines Superintendent Malik Maqsood and Assistant Linesman Muhammad Tariq of not providing safety measures to the deceased and other workers.

Ikramullah had died from an electric shock while working on an electricity connection to a local factory in the M-3 Industrial Estate. His family had staged a protest demonstration.
