Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has summoned a special meeting of the federal cabinet on Saturday to discuss his visit to the United States and the potential for talks with the Taliban.
The premier is likely to return to the country on Friday.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, he would take the cabinet into confidence over his visit and his meetings with US President Barack Obama, US Secretary of State John Kerry and US National Security Adviser Susan Rice.
The cabinet, in its meeting, is also scheduled to discuss the issue of holding talks with the Pakistani Taliban. In September, political parties represented in the parliament had affirmed their support to the federal government to initiate talks with militants.
