LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday formally launched the province's digital traffic challaning system, "One App", terming it Pakistan's first comprehensive evidence-based traffic enforcement mechanism.

Under the new system, traffic violation tickets (e-challans) will be issued with video evidence to promote transparency and accountability. According to an official spokesperson, every violation recorded through the app will be backed by preserved and verifiable footage.

Citizens will receive complete details of the offence through a QR code, enabling them to independently review the video evidence related to their challan.

Officials said the integrated platform will allow traffic personnel to verify identity cards, driving licences and stolen vehicle records on the spot. Authorities will also be able to instantly check vehicle ownership, fitness certificates and route permits through the system.

The spokesperson added that the app will facilitate digital action against encroachments and environmental violations as well.

In addition to issuing e-challans, officials will have access to FIR status and previous criminal records through the centralised database.

In the second phase of implementation, a point-based penalty system will be introduced.

Serious traffic violations may also lead to the registration of FIRs, officials said.

Muhammad Waqas Nazir said the initiative would ensure transparent and non-discriminatory enforcement based on digital evidence rather than discretion.
