Deadly celebration: Toxic liquor claims 5 lives in Larkana

The consumption of poisonous alcohol in Larkana left five people dead and seven others hospitalised, Express News reported on Friday.
Two of the hospitalised patients are still in critical condition.
This incident took place last night in several areas of Larkana including Waleed area and Masih area.
Some of the victims of this alcohol poisoning incident are Zahid Abbasi, Saeed Ahmed, Farooq Maseeh and Amar Lal.
Deaths due to the consumption of poisonous liquor are common in Pakistan, especially during holidays. Due to the ban on alcohol sales in the country - with minorities being an exception - a large black market controls liquor sales, with no regulation in place.
On September 1 police had arrested a man accused of selling poisonous liquor that killed 21 people in Faisalabad.
On July 24 and July 25, 21 people had died and over a hundred were hospitalised after they consumed toxic liquor in Warispura, Barkatpura and Christian Town. Batala Colony SHO Waheed Shahid had said many of those hospitalised ended up paralysed.
On August 23, a man had died and another was hospitalised after consuming toxic liquor in two incidents.
Furthermore, on August 10, ten people had died as a result of drinking poisonous liquor in Mehmoodabad, Karachi.
