An anti-terrorism court (ATC) found a man guilty of extortion, while acquitting his accomplice, on Monday.
Asghar Ali was found guilty of extortion from a businessman by threatening to kill him. According to the prosecution, Ali demanded Rs500,000 from the plaintiff, Abdul Hameed. Ali and his two accomplices, Shahid and Naeem, threatened Hameed with dire consequences if he failed to meet their demands, it added.
Following a complaint, the police arrested Ali and Shahid, and seized illegal weapons from their possession. Shahid, while denying his involvement in the extortion case, admitted before a magistrate that he carried an unlicensed weapon and was sentenced to two months imprisonment and a Rs1,000 fine.
Shahid's guilty plea helped him get a lenient sentence for possession of illegal weapon and he was acquitted of extortion charges.
