KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent on Wednesday four suspects, including a couple allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old schoolgirl, to jail on judicial remand till October 22.

The ATC-II remanded the victim's cousin, Reema, her husband, Bilal, and their two accomplices - Waqar and Shahid - with directions to the investigating officer to submit a charge sheet in the case at the next date of hearing.

The girl, a student of class four, was taken away from her school in the Azizabad police limits on September 24. She was found dead at Sea View on September 26.

Following the murder, the police detained Reema and Bilal from Bilal Colony on September 28. The police have also seized a mobile phone used to make ransom calls and a motorcycle from the suspects.

According to the police, the couple had orchestrated the schoolgirl's kidnap to get ransom from her father but they killed her when a case was registered as they feared the girl would disclose their identity to the police.

According to the remand papers and other documents submitted by the police in court, the victim's father informed the police that his daughter had good relations with her female cousin.

The court remanded Waqar on charges of making three ransom calls to the family of the victim, while Shahid was remanded for providing an unregistered SIM card in exchange for 25 per cent share of the ransom amount. The police had arrested Waqar from Azizabad and Shahid from Quetta. The court remanded the suspect till Oct 22.
