The appointment Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was challenged in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday.

Applicant Siddiq Mirza advocate has challenged Deedar Hussain Shah's appointment as chairman NAB.

In his petition, Mirza said that the chief justice had not been consulted regarding the the appointment of the NAB chairman. The petitioner asked the court to declare the appointment of NAB chairman null and void. The Sindh High Court has accepted the petition for hearing.

Earlier, last week the appointment of Justice Deedar had been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the grounds that it violated the Constitution and that the chief justice and opposition leader had not been consulted before the appointment.

The PML-N has been strongly opposing the appointment of the NAB chairman. On Monday, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, announced that his party would move the court against the appointment of Justice (Retd) Deedar as new chairman of NAB.

Earlier, opposing President Zardari's decision to bring Justice Deedar in as NAB chairman, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif threatened that PML-N would take out a 'long march' if the appointment was not retracted.

shawn | 13 years ago | Reply In the days of PML government back in 1998 when there was a government and Supreme Court tussle following steps were taken: 1) Senior judges were bought to act against their own Chief Justice ( remember brief case scandal?) 2) PML N jyala Saif Rehman was appointed NAB chairman 3) Supreme Court was physically attacked. 4) Judiciary was ridiculed publicly by Nawaz 5) Tarar was appointed President of Pakistan who was a personal manager of Nawaz 6) CEC was removed as he decided against the nomination of Tarar as President on legal grounds 7) Judges like Malik Qayoom were used for personal gains Current government may be bad but atleast it has the character as they have not repeated anything from that era. They are fighting against Supreme court not from outside but inside it They havent done anything illegal to remove CJ Think about it?
Arshad Jamal Butt | 13 years ago | Reply PPP government came in result of a deal and Mr. President Asif Zardari has ample of corruption cases. How can courts give verdict against him. Punishment is just for poor and deprived people. Pakistan is just a guest house for elite class and politicians that is why they have their accounts in Switzerland, Spain and UK. If USA can give Martial plan after 2nd World War for Europe then why USA can not solve all problems of Pakistan? People now understand everything clearly, so change is not far away.
