
A 10-year-old boy fatally shot his mother on Monday.
Police said additional District and Sessions Judge Arif Mahmood Niazi’s son was taken into custody soon after the incident. A 12-bore gun was seized from from the judge’s house in Johar Town.
The mother, Asia Bibi, 35, was taken to Jinnah Hospital where she died.
Speaking anonymously, a police official said the judge later visited the police station and argued against the child’s arrest. He said the judge claimed the shooting was an accident. The body was handed over to him after he refused a post mortem report.
Niazi took the body to his native city Mianwali.
The policeman said he had a second wife who lived in another house.
Sub Inspector Imtiaz, the investigation officer assigned to the case, told The Express Tribune that the judge left home at 7am and the shooting had happened at 7:25am. He said the gun had been loaded and went off as the child carried it.
He said the boy had been released on the orders of Operations DIG Rai Tahir.
He said the judge had given a written statement, saying he did not want to prosecute as his wife had died in an accident.
He said the case was closed under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code.
